Two Names, One Career: Why You’ll See Me as Both Sophie and Robert

In a professional world that prizes consistency, it might feel unusual to come across the same person under two names, unless they happen to be working undercover or as a spy, that is! 🕵🏻‍♀️🥸

I work in cyber security — assessing and auditing systems & processes across government, policing, and nuclear domains. It’s fascinating and demanding work, but also deeply human: success depends as much (if not more) on understanding human behaviours and motivations as it does on purely technical knowledge.

Over the last few years, I’ve discovered that I don’t always bring just one perspective to my work, it’s actually two. Now, I sometimes present as Robert, and sometimes as Sophie. They are both me — two expressions of the same mind, the same skills, the same curiosity, but slightly different outlooks and personalities.

Why two names? Because identity isn’t always singular. Presenting as Robert, I embody certain strengths and habits. Presenting as Sophie, others come to the fore.

What matters is not the name, but the work.

So whether you have found your way here via Sophie’s profile, or via Robert’s, you are in the right place. It’s still me. Two names, two presentations, one career, one mind, two personalities, and experience of the world from two surprisingly different perspectives.

Currently, it is Sophie full time for a few months. It’s not easy to understand all of the practical implications of full-time girl-mode without actually trying it for a reasonable period. It can be hard work, it can eat into sleeping time, and it requires a lot of discipline. It also, so far (between 3 & 4 weeks in), feels amazing. Things may yet change, but right now the thought of unpacking boy-clothes again holds less than zero appeal.
